The problem
Searching judicial opinions usually means a paid corpus or an API key, and AI legal tools summarize cases non-deterministically, blurring what the source actually says.
The local-first solution
A keyless-to-you search companion runs a local SCOTUS full-text index inside the GDBS substrate and queries CourtListener through the server proxy with our central token, rendering ranked hits with the official link and no AI summarization.
What it does

Unlimited SCOTUS-local queries with no rate limit (our own data)
CourtListener search across many courts via our central server-side token

Honest scope
A search and retrieval companion over published opinions; it does not give legal advice and does not summarize (no AI). The SCOTUS index is a CC0 historical subset an operator must load first - until then it reports 'not yet loaded'. CourtListener is best-effort over its free tier and may be rate-limited.
Authorities cited
- U.S. Supreme Court opinions - CC0 public-domain historical subset, loaded by an operator into the GDBS substrate and searched as a local inverted-index full-text index (term-frequency scoring, no AI). The corpus is an operational load, not bundled with the app.
- CourtListener search API (www.courtlistener.com/help/api/rest/), Free Law Project. Called server-side with a central FREE-tier token (rate-limited ~5/min); the token is ours, never sent to the client. Best-effort coverage across many U.S. courts.
Search the opinions
Run the case-law search in your browser and pin the cited hits to a Worklog case or share them through a Gate client portal. You supply no key, and nothing is uploaded to anyone's cloud.
